Professional Development

After qualifying from Medical School in 1980, he undertook specialist training in Otolaryngology from 1986 to 1997 at the West Midlands Regional Training Programme. During those years, he had specialist training in Otology and was involved in the assessment of both adults and children with profound hearing loss. During my training, he carried out several cochlear implantations and insertion of bone anchored hearing aids. From 1993-1995, he undertook a period of scientific research at Keele University investigating the neurochemistry of sound transmission in the human brain. This work led to the award of an MPhil degree.

In 1995, he spent 6 months in Case Western Reserve University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohia, USA undertaking specialist training in Rhinoplasty and Cosmetic facial surgery.
